Abstract
The multi-scale nature of solar dynamics and magnetism is observationally addressed by a vast array of telescopes and instrumentation, that afford complementary information on a range of spatial and temporal scales (from subarcseconds - tens of km- to global Sun; from few seconds to decades). Recent developments in diagnostic possibilties have also much stressed the importance of accurate polarimetry on a large wavelength interval. In this talk I will briefly review the capabilities of state-of-the-art solar facilities, both from the ground and space-based, and outline the scientific cases leading to requirements for the planned future large-scale solar facilities.
