Chocolate Cake Dessert

  1 and 1/4 c boiling water
  1 cup pitted dates, cut in pieces
  1 package chocolate cake mix and ingredients required (egg, oil)
  1 cup (6 oz) semi sweet chocolate chips
  1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat overn to 350 degrees F. 

Pour boiling water over dates; cool.

Prepare cake mix as per package directions, substituting date mixture
in place of water. 

Pour batter into greased, floured 9x13 baking pan.

Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top. 

Bake in 350 degree F oven 35-40 minutes. 


Serve with the following ice cream sauce.

  1 3oz package instant vanilla pudding mix
  1 and 1/2 cups milk
  1 pint vanilla bean ice cream, softened

Combine pudding mix and milk and beat according to package directions.

Stir in ice cream. Chill, in covered bowl, until ready to serve. 

This sauce may be refrigerated for 3-4 days and used on cake as needed.
